Dill Defective Valve Stem Advisory

Recently Dill Air Controls, who manufactures rubber tire valve stems, recognized a manufacturing defect which affects some valve stems produced between July 2006 and November 2006. The stems were redistributed by several companies and there is currently no way to identify specific customers or vehicles with faulty stems.

A valve stem is the rubber part where you add air to your tires.

A faulty condition may appear as cracking rubber which can result in loss of air in your tires. The loss of air associated with this defect is unpredictable. Driving on under inflated tires is an unsafe driving condition. Proper air pressure is critical to the safe operation of a vehicle and air pressure should be checked regularly on every vehicle.

As a precaution for all of our customers, we are acting on the specific recommendations from the manufacturer to inspect rubber stems upon the customer’s return to our stores. This recommendation affects vehicles where stems were replaced between September 2006 and June 2007.

The inspection procedure is simple. The details are outlined in the inspection procedures document.

If you purchased tires or had a flat repair performed between September 2006 and June 2007, please feel free to return your vehicle to any of our stores for a free inspection. All customers regardless of purchase date may request valve stem inspection.
