Green Shop Policies

Surprised by a green tire store? Some people are surprised to hear we have been working on policies that protect the environment for years. At Jack Furrier's, we know that continued efforts today will mean much more in the future. A few programs are outlined below. |
Second Lives for Tires: Each year we deliver thousands of tires to government-approved facilities for disposal. Recycled tires have valuable second lives providing raw materials for playgrounds and athletic fields and base materials used to build longer lasting roads. Jack Furrier's provides a few of the best tires removed from service to needy community service agencies; during their second lives these tires provide valuable community service.

Chemical and Spill Handling: Inevitably when handling oil and other automotive chemicals there are spills and mandatory clean-up procedures. Besides the hazardous materials safety standards required by law, Jack Furrier's also recycles the water used for spill clean-up. Dirty mop water is not poured into the drains and left for the waste water department; instead it is stored and later recycled to reduce the impact on wastewater.
Ozone Depleting Chemicals: Certain automotive chemicals, especially refrigerant for air conditioning known as R-12 and R-134a, have been identified as harmful to the ozone layer. Any Jack Furrier's location that handles these chemicals employs ASE-certified technicians who are trained on prevention of accidental emission of these chemicals.
Energy Efficient Lighting: We have completed converting our stores to low energy fluorescent lighting that saves energy. This is a simple solution that makes sense for the environment and saves money.
Recycled Paper Products: Each year we shred hundreds of pounds of our waste paper products and re-use them as packing materials. Until we arrive at the paperless office, we will continue to give some of our paper a productive second life.
As pictured above, there are other innovative uses for recycled tires. Check out http://www.ponyswings.com.
