Tuffy's Car Washing Tips
October 12th, 2020
- When you see contaminants like dead bugs or bird droppings on the paint surface of your car, rinse them right away. Bird droppings have a high acidity that can eat into the clear coat. If not removed they can dig deep into your paint, leaving “scars” that can only be removed by sanding and repainting.
- Don't wash your vehicle during the hottest part of the day. The soap and water dry much faster and can dull the finish.
- Spray the vehicle off with the water hose before washing. A pre-rinse will cool off the sheetmetal, and remove any dirt or debris that might scratch or damage the paint.
- Don’t use a household detergent to wash your car. It can strip off the protective wax coating and possibly dull the finish.
- Wash the vehicle in sections to help prevent soapy water from drying on the paint before you can rinse it off.
- When you rinse your vehicle, position the water hose at a low angle to the surface and let the water gently stream across the metal for a complete rinse with little to no splashing.
- Use a chamois, terry towel, or synthetic chamois to dry the vehicle.
