Prevent Loss by Locking Your Car

Based on improving technology, vehicle thefts are dropping overall. Since we started recording this figure, thefts have dropped over 20% and are now around 770,000 cars according to FBI statistics.

Surprisingly, the reason for most of the thefts are preventable. Most commonly these vehicles have keys or key fobs left inside the unlocked vehicles. Despite great gains in technology and security, we are our own worst enemy and common sense seems to be the driving cause of these losses. Many people want to think their cars are safe in their driveway, but thieves know this better than anyone. Sadly, ecomonic hardship is often the result of this loss as many of these owners do not have insurance to cover replacement of these vehicles.

Back in 2000 we reported on a crime spree in Oro Valley where thieves were taking valuables from unlocked cars alongside locked vehicles which were left alone. Based on a more recent online search, things have not changed much.

Tuffy's Tip - Always lock your car after removing valuables from it.
